The Jetty is nestled on the North side of the “Mouth of the Columbia River”. Here, you’ll encounter fisherpeople casting their lines from the expansive boulders lining the jetty. While eagles and seagulls soar gracefully overhead, eagerly awaiting their next meal. Meanwhile, playful sea lions frolic in the waters nearby. As you can see, a small black shark navigates the water, cresting gracefully through the jetty’s cool waters. The great history and creation of the Columbia River holds the key to geological exploration and findings.
As you walk the jetty, allow the gentle sea breeze to caress your skin. Your heart lifts its many burdens by the beauty of these natural wonders.
To get to the Jetty, simply make your way to Cape Disappointment State Park, located approximately six miles south of the Lighthouse Oceanfront Resort. Follow the road leading towards Waikiki Beach until you reach the blocked-off section. Next, a paved road will guide you within 100 feet of the sandy portion of the jetty. You will see the Mouth of the Columbia River on your left. The path veers left to easily access the jetty’s edge. While flip flops are feasible for this walk, tennis shoes may provide added comfort. Once on the jetty, take a moment to observe the wildlife to the South and the crashing waves on Benson Beach to the North. Marvel at the panoramic views encompassing the North Head Lighthouse, the Cape Disappointment Lighthouse, and the breathtaking beauty of the Pacific Northwest in every direction. Also, you may even see vessels navigating these challenging waters.
